Trading rules

From your first order to the final settlement.

Join and get ready

Create an account with your email and password, then add a contact phone number before your first trade.

  • Use a password of at least eight characters. Your contact phone lets the organisers reach you if you win.
  • Research the companies, their histories and news drivers before choosing a position. Your dashboard stays available outside trading hours.
  • Registration is available until the live event closes. Trading begins when the organisers open the market.

Capital and trading costs

Everyone starts with 100,000 by default. Each filled trade is charged the event's configured percentage, including automatic settlement. Capital adjustments are excluded from profit.

  • The event's transaction-charge percentage appears in the order ticket before you submit. It applies to buying, selling, covering a short and automatic settlement.
  • The ticket shows estimated transaction charges before you trade. A pending order is charged only if it fills.
  • Any organiser adjustment to your allocated capital is excluded from trading profit and award performance.

Orders and buying power

Buys fill at ask; sells fill at bid. Market and limit orders are supported. New exposure cannot exceed 1× equity after costs. Short proceeds are reserved; pending orders also reserve capacity. A participant may submit up to 5 order actions per rolling second, shared across the website and AI connections.

  • A market order executes at the available quote. A buy limit can fill at its limit price or lower; a sell limit can fill at its limit price or higher. Unfilled limits remain in Orders, where you can cancel them.
  • The 1× limit applies to the combined value of long and short positions. Pending orders reserve buying power, and short-sale proceeds do not give you extra spending power.
  • Buying first covers an existing short; selling first reduces owned shares. Selling more than you own can open a short while short selling is allowed.
  • Use Exit in Positions to close all or part of a position without reversing it. Check your pending orders separately: exiting a position does not cancel them.
  • Placing, cancelling, exiting and setting or editing a stop loss share one limit of 5 actions per rolling second across the website, all AI connections and live/staging. Valid attempts and retries count even if rejected by a trading rule. If you reach the limit, wait one second before retrying. Reads, order previews and automatic executions do not count.

Protective stop losses

Set a stop loss on an existing position to define an automatic exit. Long positions trigger at bid; short positions trigger at ask. Normal transaction charges apply.

  • Use Stop loss beside a position to set, edit or remove its trigger. A long triggers when bid falls to or below your price; a short triggers when ask rises to or above it. The exit fills at the available market quote, so a price gap can fill beyond the trigger.
  • A stop covers the full remaining position and adjusts with its quantity. Closing or reversing the position removes the stop. When a stop triggers, other pending orders for that company are cancelled.
  • Stops can be managed while paused but wait for trading to resume before executing. Short-covering stops remain valid in the final ten minutes. Event settlement cancels remaining stops and closes positions using the common frozen quotes.

Final ten minutes

New or increased shorts are disabled. You may buy, cover existing shorts, and sell owned shares. Pending short-opening orders are cancelled.

  • The cutoff is ten minutes before the current event closing time. If the organisers change that closing time, the cutoff moves with it.
  • Restrictions are checked when an order executes. A short-opening limit cannot fill after the cutoff just because it was placed earlier.

Risk management

If equity reaches 50% of gross exposure, all positions are automatically closed. Price gaps can still produce losses beyond your allocated capital.

  • Gross exposure is the total value of your long and short positions. Account equity includes the current value of those positions after estimated closing charges.
  • Automatic risk closure also cancels pending orders. Transaction charges apply to the closing trades, and losses are reflected in your P&L.

News and scored challenges

Company developments and wider market news can move several stocks in different directions. Read each company's business and dependencies to interpret the impact.

  • Prices also move between announcements. The latest news is available in the trading workspace and News page.
  • Scored news challenges use 15-minute windows declared before trading starts. Windows for the same company cannot overlap.
  • A news item marked as scored contributes to Best Market Strategist. An incomplete window cancelled by an early event close does not count.

Market hours and pauses

Orders execute only while the market is open. Organisers control opening, pauses, resumption and the closing time shown in the arena.

  • During a pause, price movement and order execution stop. A pause does not automatically extend the closing time.
  • If your connection drops, reconnect and review Orders, Fills and Positions to check what executed. The event continues to follow its current market status and closing time.

Settlement

At the close, pending orders are cancelled and everyone settles using the same frozen bid/ask quotes. Trading charges apply. A paused event still closes at its scheduled end.

  • Every remaining long position is sold at the closing bid. Every remaining short is bought back at the closing ask.
  • The same settlement process applies if the organisers close the event early. Final rankings follow after all accounts have settled.

Awards and ties

Live results are provisional. Open positions use liquidation values after estimated closing charges. Ties use higher net profit, lower maximum drawdown, then earlier event registration. One person can win multiple awards; ineligible categories remain unawarded.

  • Net P&L includes trading charges and excludes capital adjustments. An open long is valued at bid and an open short at ask, with estimated exit charges included.
  • Maximum drawdown measures the largest percentage fall from a previous peak in your capital-adjusted account value. Return percentage uses your initial capital.
  • The public leaderboard shows names and performance totals. Other participants cannot see your individual positions or contact details.

Five ways to win

Each category rewards a different part of your performance. You can qualify for more than one.

Highest Portfolio Value

Highest final net profit after every position and transaction charge is settled.

ScoreFinal settled balance − allocated capital

  • The highest net P&L wins. With equal allocated capital, this also gives the highest final portfolio value.
  • Capital added or removed by an organiser does not count as trading profit.

Smartest Investor

Net return percentage minus maximum drawdown percentage; positive net profit required.

ScoreNet return % − maximum drawdown %

  • You must finish with positive net P&L to qualify. Net return is net P&L divided by initial capital, multiplied by 100.
  • Maximum drawdown is the largest percentage decline from an earlier peak in your capital-adjusted account value. A smaller drawdown improves your score.

Best Comeback

Recovery from a drawdown of at least 2% reached before the final 30 minutes, capped at 100%; nonnegative final profit and a trade required.

Score(Final adjusted equity − trough) ÷ (peak − trough) × 100

  • The deepest qualifying peak-to-trough drawdown must be at least 2% and recorded before the last 30 minutes. Later drawdowns do not create eligibility.
  • Final adjusted equity is initial capital plus final net P&L. Recovery is capped between 0% and 100%.
  • You must have at least one executed trade and finish with net P&L of zero or higher.

Best Market Strategist

Net affected-stock profit changes across all declared 15-minute scored news windows; positive total and exposure in two windows required.

ScoreSum of affected-stock net P&L changes across scored windows

  • All declared, completed scored windows count. Each window measures the change in net P&L for the companies affected by that news.
  • Positions already held when the window opens and trades made during it both count. You need exposure to affected stocks in at least two scored windows and a positive total score.
  • Scored challenges are fixed before trading starts. The system does not select only your best windows afterwards.

Sector Specialist

Highest positive net profit in the sector selected before trading opens.

ScoreTotal net P&L in the designated sector

  • The organiser selects the designated sector before trading opens. Check the event's chosen sector in the arena.
  • Both long and short trades count, including their transaction charges. Your sector's total net P&L must be positive to qualify.

Tied scores use higher net P&L, then lower maximum drawdown, then earlier event registration. A category remains unawarded if no participant qualifies. Results become final after settlement.
